The Whole Story
Beginning in January, Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena is reintroducing its monthly program “Silk Road Story Time.” This cultural event (held the first Saturday of every month at 10:30 AM) features Asian children’s stories told by Sunny Stevenson, former teacher and well-known local storyteller, as well as a story-themed craft and Asian-inspired snack. (Though all ages are welcome, the event is targeted to kids 8 and under.) To celebrate, Pacific Asia Museum is offering FamilyFinds members free admission to the premiere event on January 8, 2011, at 10:30 AM: Just mention "FamilyFinds" at the door for free admission.Established in 1971, the museum is one of only four US institutions dedicated to the arts and culture of Asia and the Pacific Islands. The museum's mission is to bring art and people together for self-discovery, learning and enjoyment and to promote cross-cultural understanding. While you're there, visit the "Journeys: The Silk Road" exhibit. It's a fun hands-on exploration of the legendary Silk Road, where kids can dress up as a trader, monk, camel handler, dancer, artisan or silk maker. Be sure to check out the gorgeous courtyard with colorful lanterns and a koi pond, a hit with parents and children alike.
Note: Admission to Pacific Asia Museum is also free to all visitors on the fourth Friday of each month. Kids ages 11 and under always get in free.
